For Jahari, Coach F.L.Y., self-love isn't simply a message she shares—it's deeply connected to her own journey and the different seasons of her life. Along that journey, two symbols came to hold a deeply personal meaning—the stiletto, representing how she steps forward, and the mirror, reflecting how she sees and reconnects with herself.
The stiletto has been part of my story for more than 35 years. I was inspired by Tina Turner—not the painful parts of her story, but the woman I saw emerge: confident, feminine, expressive, and fully present. There was something about seeing her step onto that stage in those stilettos that spoke to me. For me, putting on a pair of stilettos became more than wearing a beautiful shoe. It represented taking a step forward, standing tall in who I am, and having the confidence to keep moving into the life I wanted for myself.
Then, in 2008, the mirror became part of my story. I walked into my first belly dance class and found myself standing face-to-face with my reflection. As I looked into my own eyes, tears began to fall. I wasn't simply looking at what I saw on the outside. I was beginning to see myself differently. That mirror moment opened my eyes to something deeper—the relationship we have with our own reflection can shape the way we see, love, and connect with ourselves.
Life continued to give that lesson deeper meaning. In 2010, I underwent major surgery that resulted in the removal of my colon, bringing significant changes to my life and my body. Then, in 2018, I was diagnosed with alopecia, bringing another unexpected change to the woman I saw in the mirror. Through each of these seasons, I came to understand self-love on a deeper level—learning to remain connected to the woman in the mirror even as life, my body, and my reflection changed.
Through every season of my journey, the mirror and the stiletto have come to represent something far greater than what you see on the surface. The mirror represents seeing and loving the woman who is already there. The stiletto represents taking your next step with confidence, femininity, presence, and expression. Together, they are more than symbols of the F.L.Y. Institute—they are reflections of my lived journey and the message I carry forward:

Coach F.L.Y. creates reflection and movement experiences designed to reconnect women with themselves and the woman they see in the mirror. Her approach brings together reflection, music, movement, and creative expression.
F.L.Y. MIRROR TECHNIQUES™
F.L.Y. Mirror Techniques™ use the mirror for self-reflection and self-recognition, bringing awareness to how you see, speak to, and connect with the woman in the mirror—without immediately correcting or criticizing what you see.
JOURNALING & F.L.Y. CANVAS™
Journaling uses reflection questions to explore thoughts, feelings, and personal discoveries. The F.L.Y. Canvas™ combines coloring with reflection, offering a creative and accessible activity that supports focus, relaxation, and time to pause and reflect.
SASSIBELLY™ & SASSLESQUE™
Sassibelly™ and Sasslesque™ bring music and movement into the F.L.Y. experience as another way to connect with yourself. Music can reach feelings that conversation alone may not, while movement creates space to feel, express, and be fully present. Neither is about performance or getting the movement right. It’s about being present with yourself.
✦ WHY THIS WORK IS PERSONAL
I Was My
First Client
This work is personal because I was the first to live the work that would later become the F.L.Y. Institute.
Before the Institute, before the programs, there was a woman standing in front of the mirror—and for the first time, she didn't look away.
Tears fell, not because something was wrong, but because something finally felt real.
In that moment, I saw the woman I had been, the woman I had survived as, and the woman I was becoming.
As a woman who has moved through childhood trauma, challenges with self-worth, and not fitting society's definition of beauty, I know what it feels like to feel unseen and unheard. I also know what it feels like to quietly wonder if you're the only one going through what you're going through. That moment in the mirror opened the door to seeing myself differently and became part of the foundation for the work I do today.
Even my signature blue eyes carry personal meaning. To me, they represent the woman the Creator meant for me to be—the woman I finally gave myself permission to fully see and express. In 2019, I legally changed my name to Jahari F.L.Y., a declaration that I was done becoming and ready to BE.
Today, Jahari’s F.L.Y. Institute™ is a place I created for women to come and see themselves differently—to reconnect with the woman in the mirror and recognize what has been within them all along. The Institute is dedicated to inspiring women to F.L.Y.—First Love Yourself™ through reflection, self-discovery, expression, and a deeper, more authentic love for self. And when a woman is going through a difficult season, I want her to know she is not alone.

As a Mirror & Movement™ Guide, my work is rooted in one unshakable truth: the most important love story of your life is the one you have with yourself.
Through mirror reflection, intentional movement, music, and journaling, I create experiences that invite women to reconnect with themselves—not to become someone new, but to recognize, love, and trust the woman who has been there all along.
